Haughville USA is a community that has been home to many cultures over the years. Through good times and bad Haughville remains proud of its heritage and the many contributions to Indianapolis its community has made. This documentary tells the story through the memories of past and present residents, business owners, civic leaders, and faith based organizations. With funding from the 16Tech Innovation Pool grant, this is Ben Rose’s first feature length documentary film project.
While working for the Westside Community Development Corporation, Rose saw the need for solidarity and healing between the Black and Latino communities in Indianapolis. He conceived a summer festival that would celebrate both cultures and bring community together. He fundraised and built a team bringing 40 resource based organizations together along with performers, and vendors to the newly formed neighborhood park of Belmont Beach and Wendell Phillips School #63.
